Our review of Panda Internet Security 2012:

Panda Internet Security 2012 is a combination of its antivirus software and internet protection. This amalgamation makes it a great product as everybody accesses the Internet nowadays and besides of your identity protection, you receive a comprehensive protection of your computer.

Panda’s interface is very straightforward and provides all the necessary information on the same page. This allows developing a habit of looking up the security status of your computer without much trouble. Your Status section contains subcategories of Antivirus, Firewall, Identity Protection, Vulnerabilities, Anti-spam filter, and Parental Control. If all the above-mentioned areas are protected, the protection shield is green and displays a message that your computer is secure. If any of the areas is out of date or vulnerable, the shield changes color and you are prompted to take action. The interface’s background color is black, which makes any color of the shield come out and alert you just by looking at the screen. From there you can take appropriate steps to fix the existing condition. Panda makes suggestions on what to do and how to proceed so you don’t need to know a whole lot to make your computer safe again, simply follow the steps.

All security settings can be set as suggested by the product developer and that’s probably the best way to start, but slowly they can be adjusted to the specific needs. To get a better insight into what is going on, you can look into the statistics that inform you on type of threats the firewall thwarted. Panda also records all the actions so you can see how it works. It will list not only scans performed but also all the updates completed as well us everything it detected and where the threats were found.

Although Panda Internet Security 2012 does not offer any new features, many of them have been improved. Firewall, USB Vaccine, and Collective Intelligence that provides samples of new threats are just some of them. You are also provided with 2 GB of online backup accessible from anywhere. Parents will also be able to better protect their children from unwanted content. You can decide what categories or websites should be excluded from access or decide on time your kids can browse the web. Browsing can also be done wit Panda Safe Browser, which opens your browser in Panda’s environment. Just in case you fear that a website might be dangerous, this option allows you to securely find out. Few features missing from this version but available in Global Protection 2012 are: optimization of your PC performance, file encryption, and file shredding. Panda Internet Security 2012 is also easy on the resources as its malware database is stored in the cloud making software updates immediate and causing less strain on the resources. Also the fact that the users can provide samples of potential malware to PandaLabs makes new threat detection and response much fasted and efficient. Thanks to the cloud database, your computer will not face difficulties in scanning and removal of found malware.

Panda Internet Security 2012 scored very high on the independent tests by AV Test. For the protection against malware infections, Panda received 5.5 out of 6.0, for cleaning and repair of malware-infected computers 5.0 out of 6.0, and finally, for the product’s impact on the usability of the computer 5.0 out of 6.0. It was also very efficient in detection and removal components of known malware, and fixing system changes caused by malware. It beat the industry averages handsomely in all the categories.

In general, Panda Internet Security 2012 reviews were average. This product is not a standout and it ranks in the middle of the pack. Cnet.com users gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars with some complains about the speed of scan, customer service, or the efficiency in removing malware. Those opinions contrast with the users who found detection rates very satisfying at acceptable speed. Techradar.com gave it 4 out of 5 stars stating that even though the product is “over cautious”, it is better to have software that takes an extra security step that the one that ignores it. Finally, TopTenReviews ranked it No.18 out of 23 products in the Internet Security Suites category. There weren’t any major problems with the product but it came up short in comparison to others in categories such us Antispyware, Antivirus, and Help & Support.
